Kantha technique is a traditional textile know-how from Bengal (India and Bangladesh). It consists of recycling old saris or fabrics by superimposing them, then quilting them with fine parallel straight stitch embroidery. These tight topstitches create a slightly embossed effect and give the fabric flexibility and strength.
Historically, women in Bengal made these pieces by hand to make blankets, shawls or tablecloths, often adding symbolic or floral motifs embroidered. Today, kantha is also used to create throws, cushions, jackets or accessories, always with this unique and artisanal patina that combines reclamation, creativity and tradition.
