GLOBEN LIGHTING - Fungo Lamp Smoke

The Fungo mushroom lamp is mouth-blown: a ribbed base, a wide domed shade, and small air bubbles trapped in the glass that reveal themselves as soon as it is turned on. The smoked glass, in a translucent grey-brown, softens the light and embraces a lovely seventies vibe. The brushed metal socket provides a contrast to the glass.

As each piece is mouth-blown, the shade, glass thickness, and number of bubbles vary slightly from one lamp to another.

Globen Lighting is a Swedish lighting company founded in 1983. Their Fungo lamp, with its cool retro style, is their iconic piece: a wide domed shade set on a ribbed base, similar to the gills of a bolete mushroom. Designed by their in-house studio, it is entirely mouth-blown. That said, not everyone sees a mushroom: for half the people who encounter it, it is more like a jellyfish.
